Country Living Magazine chose Ingleby Manor as “A Great Escape” and wrote that a stay here is "a unique opportunity to experience living in a fascinating historic house with all the comforts of the present day". As can be seen from the visitors' quotes in our journals over the years, the atmosphere of a house where families have lived since the reign of Henry VIII, and the exceptionally peaceful and beautiful surroundings of the gardens, woods and hills shut out the hurly burly of the modern world and enable visitors to relax, relish and absorb priceless moments such as watching a kingfisher teaching it’s chick to fly from a log in the river or marvelling at the colours of a dragonfly hovering over the pool in the “secret” walled garden.

Whether you plan your holiday with your children or grand children or just as a couple for some quality time together, Ingleby Manor gives you a breathing space and sends you away refreshed. It's not just the Hypnos beds and fresh air that help you sleep well.

"This is a wonderful place to stay in the heart of the Yorkshire moors.  The Manor has been exquisitely restored providing a rare opportunity to taste baronial life in these beautiful surroundings.  Christine is a wonderful host providing lovely treats, local knowledge and suggestions to make the most of your stay.  We have no hesitation in recommending the Manor and intend to make time for annual return."

"Our stay in the Manor Cottage was a delightful experience. Really nice and scenic location, part of Ingleby Manor, on the foot of the Moors. Owner, very friendly and welcoming. Me and my children were made very welcome and invited to a tour of the Manor, use of the gardens and the childrens' outdoor play area. My son loved the Games Room (pool and table football). We were welcomed with cup cakes and milk in the fridge - nice and very tasty surprise! The cottage was very nicely decorated, offering a very well equipped Kitchen and all the amenities of a modern home. Very clean, nice soft towels, under floor heating. Magnificent views of the Moors and lovely walks on your doorstep (can walk within 30 minutes to the Hills). Lovely experience - I would highly recommend it! "

"Amazing place.  We stayed here recently in Courtyard Cottage having rented apartments in the Manor itself previously.  We had friends to stay too over the weekend and they loved it too.  The whole place is amazingly tranquil and visitors are made very welcome by all the family.  When you visit here you really feel you can relax.  The accommodation is very special - huge rooms beautifully decorated with interesting and comfortable furniture.  Furnishings include stylishly heavy curtains and there's a wide variety of tasteful artwork in each room.  We had an open fire in the enormous fireplace in the sitting room on a couple of nights with all the fuel provided.  The kitchen is large and well-resourced.  The welcome tray was much appreciated with a huge and delicious home-made chocolate cake."

"Superb accommodation - Fantastic stay in this very well restored manor. Ideal location and surroundings for a very relaxing retreat. Child-friendly with lots to see and do around."

"Exceeded all our expectations - What a find! Set in the dramatic North Yorkshire countryside, Ingleby Manor became home to a family of 3 generations. We had the freedom to explore the grand manor, delight in the beautiful walled gardens and take advantage of the abundant wild garlic that lined the long driveway. We had amazing privacy too, rarely seeing or hearing our fellow guests. Christine and her daughter were lovely and the home-made cake was much appreciated. It is a fantastic base from which to explore both the moors and the coast."

"We have never found anywhere to rival Ingleby Manor, it's the perfect holiday destination - Lovely location, relaxing atmosphere, friendly and helpful owners. Plenty of space to wander in grounds and garden. Delicious cake to welcome us on arrival. Like so many other visitors to the Manor we keep coming back year after year and always find new things to do. Ideal for all ages."

"The hosts were charming and the accommodation was spotless. The location is simply stunning. We stayed in the pump room which was spacious and very well equipped. We used the manor kitchen for a Christmas lunch for 16 family members and found it to be ideal for the occasion. There is a an additional charge for this but it was quite reasonable. Overall the manor is quite simply faultless!!!"

"I have returned to Ingleby Manor after last being here in 1944-1945.  My father was chauffeur to Lord de Lisle at the time.  It has been really lovely to come back and see the Manor as it is now."

"Our little daughter had many things to discover - peacocks, young ducks (one egg less, one duck more each day), the swings, Ingleby Beck (throwing sticks into the water) and more. "

"Do not miss this lovely place, wow!!! - This is the second time we have stayed in the cottage here, it is exceptional. Really comfortable stay, nice rooms, nice views, excellent hosts. Just cannot be beaten - honestly, Try it, you will not be left wanting at all."

"Relaxing retreat - I stayed in the Courtyard Cottage, walking in through the front door you immediately feel at home. The cottage was spotlessly clean, spacious and finished to a very high standard. The owners made me feel really welcome, nothing was too much trouble. The welcoming cake was mouth-watering. This is a great location near to all the local attractions and within walking distance of the village pub. I will definitely be going again and recommending it to my friends and family."

"Phenominal property! - I cannot say enough good things about Ingleby. It sits in a very rural area down a winding lane. My friends and I booked a three bedroom apartment that had everything anyone could possibly need. Staying in such an historic manor home was a real treat for us. The countryside was beautiful with plenty of sheep, horses, cows, and so on. The walled garden will be especially lovely in the spring. Our accommodations were clean, comfortable and modern. I hope to be able to return to Ingleby someday and stay a bit longer."

"Flycatchers nesting in the ivy above the bathroom and resting on the bench outside.  Treecreepers in the trees at the beginning of the drive.  Cuckoo to be heard regularly.  Pied wagtails everywhere."

"Really enjoyed a walk through the woods with my children.  We were lucky enough to see two kingfishers on the stream, a mother and her fledgling.  We also enjoyed following the deer tracks through the mud."

"We stayed in the Pump Room apartment for a week to celebrate a family birthday.  Christine could not have been more helpful or kinder.  From accommodating our requirements for my disabled mum to providing a delicious welcome cake, Christine made sure our stay was a warm and welcome one.  The apartment is well appointed, the grounds spectacular and the surrounding area stunning."

"Well!  What a week!  Cold arctic winds to start with, moving on to hot 25 deg. sunshine!  But our surprise this week ... we had to "share" our apartment.  Visitors had moved in from South Africa and decided to bring up their family here.  A beautiful pair of swallows had nested in the porch leading to the courtyard and through the glass we had the most amazing "bird's eye view" .  We were surprised that "dad" kept the eggs warm just as much as "mum".  We hope other visitors will record the outcome.  We'd love to know what happens when we return next year!"

"We enjoyed watching the swallows feed their young at the start of the week but the babies have now grown so big that they can no longer all fit into the nest.  As soon as a fourth bird squeezes in, one of the other three pops out!  It's a lot like "there were 10 in the bed..."  We suspect they are now old enough to fend for themselves and will soon all abandon the nest."

"On this visit we read all our previous entries in this Journal ... we have said it all so many times... we have grown older with the Manor and all those who define the Manor, and friends we have made over the decades, we have lost count of the number of our visits.  Shared moments of Hospitality, Beauty, Thoughtfulness, Friendship and Awe.  For so many years it has brough peace and beauty that we still carry when so far away.  You may be here for a walk, a brief stay, a full holiday ... so ... slow down, hush, drink it in.  This is such a unique and special place."
